About SimpleFix Nigeria

Our Story

The Country is
Ours Alone

SimpleFix Nigeria was founded to address a longstanding disconnect between public policy and the real needs of the Nigerian people.

With over 133 million Nigerians classified as multidimensionally poor (NBS, 2022), and with many policy decisions being made without transparency, citizen engagement, or grassroots input, Nigeria's governance crisis is not a mystery — it is a consequence. Policy conversations remain largely inaccessible to the average person: obscured by technical language, centralised in elite spaces, and divorced from everyday realities.

SimpleFix Nigeria exists to reverse that trend. We are a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation delivering public benefit through civic education, policy literacy, and inclusive governance advocacy. Our work translates the language of government into knowledge that every Nigerian can understand, engage with, and act on — regardless of background, income, or formal education.

We provide free, accessible policy tools — from research briefs to podcast episodes to multilingual public education resources — that empower individuals and communities to better understand and influence the public policy decisions that shape their lives. Through community outreach, research-driven advocacy, and strategic partnerships, we work to ensure that governance in Nigeria is guided not only by expert knowledge, but by the lived experiences of ordinary Nigerians.

We particularly prioritise the inclusion of underrepresented groups — youth, women, and persons with disabilities — in public dialogue and democratic participation. The Country is Ours Alone.

Who We Are

Mission, Vision
& Core Values

Three principles anchor everything we do at SimpleFix Nigeria — from how we conduct research to how we communicate with the public.

Our Mission

To simplify policy discourse, promote inclusive civic education, and drive evidence-based advocacy that empowers Nigerian communities to actively participate in shaping transparent, accountable, and equitable governance.

Our Vision

To build a Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of background or language, is empowered to understand, influence, and benefit from public policy decisions that shape their lives.

Our Values

Clarity — we communicate without jargon. Rigour — our research is evidence-based and verifiable. Accessibility — our work is free and open to all. Accountability — we hold government to the standard its citizens deserve. Inclusion — no voice is left unheard, particularly those of youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

The Problem We Solve

Why Policy Literacy
Matters in Nigeria

Nigeria's governance challenges are not just problems of leadership — they are problems of an insufficiently informed citizenry. Here is why that matters.

01

Accountability Requires Awareness

Accountability requires knowledge. When Nigerians do not understand what a government policy says, who it affects, or whether it is being implemented, they cannot demand better. Policy literacy is the precondition for democratic accountability.

02

Expertise Means Nothing Without Access

Nigeria has research institutions, think tanks, and policy analysts. What it lacks is the translation layer — content that converts that expertise into knowledge accessible to an ordinary Nigerian in Bayelsa, Kano, or Lagos.

03

Uninformed Citizens Enable Bad Policy

Legislation that passes without public scrutiny, budgets that go unquestioned, and reforms that never happen — all are symptoms of a civic knowledge gap. Informed citizens make it harder for bad policy to survive.

Our Areas of Focus

What We Do

SimpleFix Nigeria addresses Nigeria's most pressing governance and development challenges through nine interconnected areas of work — all non-profit, civic-oriented, and designed to ensure that policy is people-centred, transparent, and actionable.

Policy Research & Development

We conduct rigorous, evidence-based research to identify systemic policy gaps across sectors, publishing findings as free policy briefs, explainer sheets, and data visualisations aimed at guiding decision-makers, civil society, and the public.

Governance & Institutional Reform

We examine structural weaknesses in existing systems and propose policy reforms that close corruption loopholes and improve service delivery at all tiers of government — local, state, and federal.

Social & Economic Development

With over 33% youth unemployment and deep inequalities in education, healthcare, and economic opportunity, we research and advocate for inclusive policies that create an enabling environment for sustainable growth.

Democratic Participation & Civic Rights

We educate citizens on their constitutional rights, electoral processes, and civic entitlements — from understanding INEC and the Electoral Act, to civil liberties, access to justice, and the meaningful participation of youth and women in governance and public life.

Public Engagement & Awareness

We simplify complex policy issues into relatable formats — infographics, animations, documentaries, podcast episodes, and opinion editorials — in the top ten Nigerian languages, so every citizen can participate in the policymaking process.

Evidence-Based Policy Advocacy

We champion the adoption of evidence-based approaches to policymaking at all levels of governance, leveraging data-driven insights to shift Nigeria's policy discourse toward solutions grounded in measurable impact and practical outcomes.

Policy Solutions Repository

We aspire to be a centralised, free, and accessible resource for government officials, private stakeholders, and citizens seeking reliable, research-backed recommendations for Nigeria's policy challenges.

Multilingual Policy Communication

Nigeria's linguistic diversity — over 500 languages — can be a barrier to effective communication. We bridge this divide by translating policy insights into relatable, actionable materials in the ten most widely spoken languages.

Collaboration & Partnerships

We actively engage with government agencies, academic institutions, NGOs, and international bodies to drive impactful change — fostering the exchange of ideas, resources, and expertise to amplify the reach of our initiatives.

Our Methodology

The SIMPLE Approach

Everything SimpleFix Nigeria does is guided by a single operational framework — an acronym that reflects our values and the way we work: SIMPLE. It is more than a mnemonic; it is our commitment to creating a Nigeria where evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable policies pave the way for a brighter future.

S

Strategic Research & Advocacy

We tackle Nigeria's pressing policy challenges through carefully designed, evidence-based research and advocacy — engaging stakeholders from government agencies to community leaders, and measuring the effectiveness of public policies and programmes to advocate for better outcomes. All research outputs are disseminated freely to the public through digital and physical channels.

I

Inclusive Engagement

Nigeria's diversity is one of its greatest strengths. With over 250 ethnic groups and a population of more than 200 million, inclusivity is not optional — it is essential. No voice is left unheard. We prioritise engaging women, youth, and persons with disabilities, and use a multilingual communication strategy to break complex policy issues into accessible formats across the top ten Nigerian languages.

M

Measurable Impact

We define success through measurable improvements in policy literacy, civic engagement, and governance outcomes. We track the adoption of our policy recommendations by public institutions, evaluate the reach of our civic education materials, and report transparently on the results of our outreach, advocacy, and engagement efforts.

P

Participatory Processes

We believe that policies are only effective when those they impact actively participate in their development. Our participatory processes include grassroots dialogues with local communities, workshops equipping citizens with the knowledge to advocate for their rights, and collaborative forums that bridge the gap between grassroots concerns and institutional decisions.

L

Localised Solutions

Nigeria's policy challenges are deeply rooted in its unique historical, cultural, and economic contexts. Generic solutions imported from elsewhere often fail to address these complexities. We design localised solutions that reflect the lived experiences of Nigerians — whether addressing rural poverty, urban planning, or climate adaptation — tailored to the specific needs of the communities we serve.

E

Evidence-Based Policymaking

Nigeria's policy landscape is too often dominated by political expediency rather than data-driven decisions. We champion evidence-based policymaking by conducting rigorous qualitative and quantitative research, building a centralized knowledge hub continuously updated with actionable solutions, and advocating for government decisions aligned with research-backed insights that enable more effective governance.

How We Work

Our Editorial &
Research Principles

The credibility of our work depends on how we produce it. These principles govern every article, podcast episode, and policy brief we publish.

01

Evidence First

Every claim we publish must be grounded in verifiable data, primary sources, or peer-reviewed research. We cite our sources. We acknowledge uncertainty where it exists. We do not trade in speculation dressed as analysis.

02

Plain Language, Without Dumbing Down

We write for an educated, curious Nigerian public — not for an academic journal, and not for a tabloid. Our goal is rigorous content that a citizen without a policy background can follow, act on, and discuss.

03

Solutions-Oriented

We document what is wrong. We document why it is wrong. But we do not stop there. Every piece of work we produce includes — where possible — specific, actionable recommendations for what better policy could look like.

04

Independent & Non-Partisan

SimpleFix Nigeria is not affiliated with any political party, government institution, or commercial interest. Our analysis follows the evidence — not any political agenda. We hold all governments and all parties to the same standard.

05

Open Access

Our publications, articles, and podcast episodes are free and publicly available. Policy knowledge should not sit behind a paywall. We are committed to keeping our work accessible to every Nigerian, regardless of means.
